What We're Doing ...

    One day to go!!

Only one more day to go till this year’s beer festival! As you can imagine, we are all frantically busy here trying to get the venue sorted and the beers delivered. We’ve had the vouchers printed – they’re £1.50 each, which gets you a half pint – and the programmes are coming off the press as I write.

We’ve also finalised the list of beers on offer over the weekend and there are some pretty special ones on there!

One that we’re really looking forward to is Glastonbury Ales’ Lady of the Lake, which is a really delicious caramel bitter and definitely not one to be missed!

We’ve also got hold of two beers from Hunter’s Brewery, which is a micro brewery in the heart of Devon. Crack Shot is an easy drinking ale that will even appeal to the lager drinkers among you …. but we’ve left the strongest till last, the immense Full Bore which is a whopping 8% ABV!!! This beer’s strength is cunningly hidden behind a surprisingly refreshing taste, which comes about because there’s plenty of Devon honey in there!

Our final beer of the weekend is another strong one – it’s Sandford Orchards’ Devon Scrumpy, a lovely cloudy cider that comes in at 6.5% ABV.

So that’s our beer list sorted for this year. Which ones are you looking forward to? Which ones do you wish we had included – and we’ll do our best to get them next year!

    More beers added

Well no sooner had we announced that Sign of Spring, the green beer, would be making a return at the festival, we heard that it’s so popular that the brewery has run out! So unfortunately we won’t have it there now, but we have just added a stack of beers to the list.

We’re going pink this year with Wadworth’s Lily the Pink, a unique blend of golden beer and Angosturas Bitters, the pink from pink gin. Drink plenty of it, because a donation from every drink goes to Breast Cancer Awareness.

We’ve also added Hammer and Tongs and Four Seasons from Halfpenny Brewery, who are our beer token sponsors this year, as well as the wonderfully named Funky Monkey from Milk Street Brewery.

There are a few extra ciders on the list too, including the very popular Thatchers Heritage and the wonderfully purple Mr Whitehead’s Blackberry Cider.

So much choice … how on earth are you going to decide which to try? And with less than a week to go we still have a few more beers to come!

Sign of Spring makes a welcome return!

With less than a fortnight till the 2011 Cirencester Beer Festival we’ve starting releasing details of some of the real ales and ciders that will be on sale over the festival weekend. The Beer List has all the details.

Among the beers we’ve added are:

Cotleigh Breweries’ Golden Seahawk, which has honey and citrus flavours, and Tawny Owl, a West Country Classic.

The fabulously named Pressed Rat and Warthog – it’s a tasty combination of fruit and hops with a bittersweet finish – and we guarantee it’s actually rat-free!

And our personal highlight (so far) … a welcome return to Stonehenge Ales’ Sign of Spring, our favourite green beer!

We’ve also added a couple of ciders, including Skinner’s Press Gang, a new still cider that tastes of fresh apples.

We’ll be adding more beers in the next few days, but have a look at the list and let us know which beers you’re looking forward to trying so far!

    Beer list coming very soon!

We’re just in the process of finalising our full list of beers, and there seems to be a bit of an animal theme going on, with the list including a Mad Goose, a Funky Monkey and a Rat and Warthog! We’re also really pleased to have got hold of some Stonehenge Sign of Spring, which we know was a favourite last year.

Rumours that there may be a pink ale on the menu are unconfirmed … but watch this space! We’ll be publishing the list sometime next week.

    Live music on Sunday night

We’re delighted to announce that Oxfordshire singer/songwriter Trev Williams will be performing live at the festival on Sunday evening. Trev went down a storm last year so we’re chuffed that he’s happy to play again. Described as “hard hitting acoustic music with emotion and energy”, Trev’s music will be the ideal accompaniment to your pint!

    First beers announced

We’ve just announced the first three beers for this year’s Cirencester Beer Festival. Wye Valley Brewery will be bringing along Wye Valley Bitter, HPA and Dorothy Goodbody’s May Queen. More beers to be announced very soon!

Entry fees for Beer Festival announced!

The organisers of the Cirencester Beer Festival 2011 have just announced the entry fees.

Entrance to the festival on Saturday and Sunday is £3 – ticket price includes a commemorative glass to keep and one beer token.

The festival will also be open during the Tractor Ted Farm Show on bank holiday Monday – Anyone paying to visit the Show can also attend the Beer Festival for an additional £2 – and again this includes the commemorative glass and beer token.

Special thanks to Wye Valley Brewery for sponsoring the glasses and Halfpenny Brewery for sponsoring the beer tokens..

The 2011 Festival is on its way!

Welcome to the website for the Cirencester Beer Festival 2011.

As the festival approaches we’ll keep this website updated with news of the beers, bands, food, entertainment, sponsors and more. There might even be the odd special offer so keep checking back for the latest news.

    2010 Festival Review

Last year’s Cirencester Beer Festival was a huge success and we raised over £800 for The MND Association (Motor Neurone Disease). We were especially helped by Smarts Gloucester Cheese who donated a huge double Gloucester for a raffle!

We had 34 beers in total, plus a couple of ciders, and plenty of variety. There were golden beers, IPAs, stout, a very strong 7.2% ale and even a green beer … not an eco beer, actually a GREEN beer! Among our personal favourites were Arbour’s Motueka, Cotswold Spring Brewery’s Old Sodbury Mild, and Nailsworth’s Old Rocky – but they all seemed to be very popular. The burgers were tasty and the bands in the evenings went down well. I think we managed to create a great pub atmosphere in the day, too. Helped that the weather was okay!

Thanks to Fuller and Cain, our main sponsor, Wye Valley for sponsoring the glasses and all the other sponsors and people who helped put the festival together – we couldn’t do it without you! Special thanks must also go to Bottlegreen, who gave us a supply of alcohol-free drinks for the poor nominated drivers who missed out on all the beer.

See what you missed out on by not coming along last year? No excuses this time – we hope to see you over the May bank holiday weekend for the 2011 Cirencester Beer Festival!
